Sonam Raghuvanshi, arrested for allegedly murdering her husband during their Meghalaya honeymoon, claims she is innocent and was abducted. Meghalaya Police, however, say she is a prime accused who hired contract killers.

Sonam Raghuvanshi, who was arrested for allegedly murdering her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon visit to Meghalaya, has claimed she is innocent and said she was abducted.

According to police sources, Sonam said she is not the accused but a victim in the case .

Sonam claimed that after being abducted, she was abandoned in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she then called her brother for help.

At a press conference, Meghalaya Police stated that Sonam is one of the prime accused in her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder and had allegedly hired contract killers to carry it out.

Police added that with the arrest of four accused, further investigation is now underway.

“The first person arrested is 19-year-old Akash Rajput from Lalitpur. The second is Vishal Singh Chauhan, 22, and the third is Raj Singh Kushwaha, 21 – both from Indore,” said Vivek Syiem, SP, East Khasi Hills.

“Yesterday, Sonam Raghuvanshi was in Ghazipur. This afternoon, we arrested another accused from the Sagar district. One person has been detained from Nandgarh. These people committed the crime on May 23, and left soon after," he said.

She had gone missing after her husband’s body was found in a gorge near the Weisawdong Falls parking area in East Khasi Hills on 2 June. Police traced her to Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered at the Nandganj police station late on Sunday night.

Raghuvanshi’s family has strongly denied the murder charges against her. Her father, Devi Singh, insists she is innocent and has demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.
