Sonam Raghuvanshi, the woman suspected of killing her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, “surrendered under pressure,” according to police.

She had gone missing after her husband’s body was found in a gorge near the Weisawdong Falls parking area in East Khasi Hills on 2 June. Police traced her to Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered at the Nandganj police station late on Sunday night.

Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Dalton P Marak, said, “Sonam surrendered under pressure last night, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to four. One accused remains missing. Sonam will be brought back to Meghalaya for court proceedings.”

Raghuvanshi’s family has strongly denied the murder charges against her. Her father, Devi Singh, insists she is innocent and has demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.

“My daughter is innocent. I trust her completely – she could never do something like this. Both families had agreed to the marriage. The Meghalaya government has been lying from the start. My daughter reached a dhaba in Ghazipur last night and called her brother. The police came there and took her away. I haven’t even spoken to her yet. She came to Ghazipur on her own, not arrested in Meghalaya. The police are making up stories. Let a CBI probe begin, and the truth will come out,” he said.

The couple had checked into Balaji Guest House in Shillong on 21 May. The next day, they rented a scooter on Keating Road and travelled to Cherrapunjee (Sohra). That evening, they reached Mawlakhiat village and hired a local guide to trek to Shipara Homestay in Nongriat, known for its double-decker living root bridges.
