A fire broke out at an electrical substation in London’s Westminster, early Tuesday (April 29), sending thick black smoke into the sky.
About 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines are working to control the blaze, and nearby residents have been advised to keep their windows closed.
Fire officials confirmed that an electrical transformer caught fire, and the flames spread to part of the roof of a nearby residential building.

The fire brigade was called around 5:30 am and has been working to put out the flames since then. Station Commander Paul Morgan said the fire is large and producing a lot of smoke, urging residents to keep their windows and doors closed.
The London Fire Brigade also posted on X, warning people to stay indoors due to the smoke and confirming crews are tackling the substation fire in Victoria Passage, Westminster.
