US President Donald Trump has unveiled pictures of the renovated bathroom inside Lincoln’s Bedroom, indicating that the White House revamp is going on in full swing after demolishing the East Wing, paving over the Rose Garden and decorating the Oval Office in gold.
Trump, who has drawn criticism from preservationists and Democrats for adding a Mar-a-Lago-style sheen to the historic mansion, unveiled the remodelled white-and-black-marbled bathroom via social media.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House. It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era. I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!"
This particular post was followed by a number of other posts that carried several pictures of the renovated bathroom.
The ballroom project
Last month, Trump ordered the demolition of the East Wing to make way for his ‘big, beautiful ballroom’ worth $250 million.
The construction of the ‘big, beautiful ballroom’ is the first major addition to the White House in more than a century.
Traditionally, US first ladies have maintained their offices in the East Wing, while the president conducts business from the West Wing. The couple resides together in the Executive Mansion.
While Trump claims that the East Wing is “completely separate from the White House itself,” it is linked to the main mansion by a covered colonnade.
Trump claims the new 90,000-square-foot ballroom, which can accommodate up to 1,000 guests, is necessary for hosting large state dinners and other events that are currently held in tents.
