Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dispatched two planes to Amsterdam to evacuate and bring back Israeli soccer fans who went to watch a match between Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Ajax Amsterdam but were brutally attacked by alleged pro-Palestinian mob on Thursday night.
As per reports, Israeli soccer fans who travelled to the Netherlands to watch Maccabi Tel Aviv match against Ajax Amsterdam were assaulted on Thursday night at several locations in the Dutch city by an apparent anti-Israeli mob that chanted ‘Free Palestine’ and hurled insults in Arabic.
According to a report by The Times of Israel, the attack began after the Israeli soccer team’s loss to local club Ajax.
10 Israelis injured, no contact with two, attackers steal passports
Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar said at least 10 Israelis were injured in the violence.
The Israeli foreign ministry informed that contact with two other Israelis have been lost.
As per reports in Hebrew media outlets, passports of some of the targeted Israelis were also stolen by the attackers.
Israel, meanwhile, has advised its citizens in the Netherlands not to step out and stay in their hotels.
Sa’ar also asked his Dutch counterpart Kasper Veldkamp to help Israelis reach safely to the airport from their hotels.
Meanwhile, Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, in a post on X, said: “Fans who went to see a football game, encountered anti-Semitism and were attacked with unimaginable cruelty just because of their Jewishness and Israeliness.”

According to Noa Tishby, a former special envoy for combating antisemitism and Delegitimisation of Israel, said that Israelis in Amsterdam were “beaten, kicked, run over, thrown in the river.”

‘Ensure peace of Israeli citizens’: Netanyahu tells Dutch authorities
Netanyahu called the violence “serious” as he ordered the “immediate release of two rescue planes” to assist Israeli citizens.
He also urged Dutch authorities to “act firmly and quickly against the rioters and ensure the peace of our citizens.”
‘Israelis ambushed & attacked in Amsterdam’
The Israeli embassy to the United States, in a post on X, said hundreds of fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team “were ambushed and attacked in Amsterdam” as they left the stadium following a Europa League game.

Former Israeli PM Naftali Bennett said, “At this very moment in Amsterdam, Jews are being attacked at multiple locations… I call upon the Dutch authorities to act immediately to prevent further injuries and loss of lives.”
