Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday said that Iran and its proxies will “pay a heavy price” after his office reported a drone targeted his residence in Caesarea.

“Iran’s proxies who tried to assassinate me and my wife today made a grave mistake,” said Netanyahu who, his office said, was not home at the time of the incident.

The attempt by Iran’s proxy Hezbollah to assassinate me and my wife today was a grave mistake.

This will not deter me or the State of Israel from continuing our just war against our enemies in order to secure our future.

I say to Iran and its proxies in its axis of evil:…

The statement comes after reports emerged that a drone fired by Hezbollah from Lebanon exploded near his house in Caesarea early on Saturday. Israeli media later published a video of the prime minister saying “nothing will deter us, we will keep going until victory”.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Israel’s foreign minister said the “true face” of Iran had been exposed by what he called an assassination attempt by Iran-backed groups against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“The Iranian proxies who attempted to assassinate Prime Minister Netanyahu and his family today have once again exposed Iran’s true face and the evil axis it leads,” Israel Katz said in a statement on X, after Netanyahu’s office said a drone targeted the premier’s residence in the town of Caesarea earlier on Saturday.

Earlier, the Israeli military said that a drone was launched from Lebanon and that it had hit a building. It was not immediately clear what the building was. Two more drones that crossed into Israeli territory were intercepted, the military said.

There were no casualties reported, according to the Israeli ambulance service and police said explosions had been heard in Caesarea, coastal town where Netanyahu has a holiday home.

The drone attack was not immediately claimed by the Lebanese Iran-backed group Hezbollah, which has been trading fire with Israel since last October, or any other militant group.
