Israel on Friday confirmed that it has extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the country, though the timing and status of the proposed trip remain uncertain amid speculation of a possible February visit.

According to a News18 report, a spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi said, “I can confirm Israel has invited him,” but declined to provide details on dates or confirm whether the visit has been finalised.

The confirmation comes against the backdrop of increased diplomatic engagement between India and Israel and growing anticipation over whether PM Modi will make another high-profile visit to the country, nearly eight years after his landmark trip in 2017.

However, the Indian government has not issued any official statement on the proposed visit.

The Israeli Embassy also did not clarify whether PM Modi has accepted the invitation, leaving questions over the timing and feasibility of the trip.

According to the report, citing diplomatic sources, while both sides remain keen on a high-level engagement, no formal announcement has yet been made by New Delhi.

India-Israel ties

PM Modi’s landmark visit to Israel in July 2017 marked a turning point in bilateral ties, making him the first Indian prime minister to travel to the country. Since then, India and Israel have significantly expanded cooperation in areas including defence and security, advanced technology, agriculture, water management and innovation.

Defence ties have deepened in particular, with Israel now among India’s top three arms suppliers, alongside growing collaboration in counter-terrorism, cybersecurity and intelligence sharing.

Speculation over a possible PM Modi visit gained traction earlier this month after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he hoped to meet the Indian leader “in the near future”.

The remarks followed a telephone conversation between the two leaders and came after Netanyahu’s planned visit to India in November 2025 was cancelled.

“We discussed the strength of India-Israel relations and how we can unleash the boundless potential of this partnership for the benefit of our peoples. I look forward to meeting Prime Minister Modi in the near future to continue these discussions in person,” Netanyahu said in a social media post.

Over 5,000 killed in Iran protests, activists say many more would have died during internet blackout

At least 5,002 people have been killed and over 26,800 detained in Iran's crackdown on protests, amid the country's most extensive internet blackout. Iranian authorities have restricted journalist access and labeled protesters as "rioters" influenced by the US and Israel, while state media showcased military strength. Rising US-Iran tensions include the deployment of an American carrier group and UK-Qatar jets to the Gulf, as some detainees face charges historically used to justify mass executions.
