Days after Israeli strikes killed Hezbollah’s head Hassan Nasrallah, reports are emerging that an Iranian spy tipped off Israel about Nasrallah’s location before the latter was targeted and killed in a massive airstrike. A Lebanese security official told the French newspaper, Le Parisien, that Nasrallah was killed while he was in his highly secure underground headquarters.
According to the Lebanese official, the headquarters was built beneath a residential block of six buildings in the heart of Beirut’s southern suburbs. The Israelis managed to level those buildings during the air raids, causing massive destruction in the area. As per the report, the buildings were situated between the Haret Hreik and Borj el Barajneh districts.
While it is still not clear exactly how many people were killed in the recent strikes, the event is touted as the largest Israeli attack on the country since the 2006 war. On Sunday, the Lebanese Health Ministry stated that the death toll in the recent attacks has surpassed the 100 mark.
Iranian spy told Israel when Nasrallah would arrive at HQ
As per the report by the French news outlet, an Iranian informant was providing Israeli military officials with intelligence about the whereabouts of the senior Hezbollah leaders. The Iranian spy went on to inform Israelis when Nasrallah would arrive at the Hezbollah headquarters, while the Jewish nation’s F-35 jets were waiting in Lebanese airspace.
The Hezbollah chief arrived for an emergency meeting at the underground base. At that time, he was reportedly accompanied by more than a dozen other Hezbollah and Iranian commanders, including from Iran’s Quds Force regiment, part of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

They “went all out; they didn’t want to miss their target,” Le Parisien quoted the unnamed Lebanese security source as saying.

The official noted that at least six two-ton bombs were dropped on the site, causing a massive explosion in the area. Apart from killing Nasrallah, the strikes managed to kill over 20 Hezbollah operatives of varying ranks. The Lebanese militant group eventually confirmed the deaths of senior official Ali Karaki, as well as IRGC Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan.

According to the videos that are circulating online, the air raid caused a crater between 50 and 70 meters deep, showing the aftermath of the attack on the Hezbollah headquarters. Other videos circulating online allegedly showed Nasrallah’s body being taken out of the crater. However, Firstpost could not independently verify if it was actually the Hezbollah chief.
