US Election Result: Trump wins Indiana, say CNN & AP

Republican candidate former President Donald Trump has won Indiana’s 11 electoral college votes, the CNN and AP have called.

Trump had won the state in the 2020 presidential election as well.

Situated in the midwestern region of US, Indiana’s political profile can be described as largely conservative which makes it a stronghold for the Republicans. The state consistently votes Republican in presidential races, except for a few rare instances like Barack Obama’s win in 2008.

The state is also known for its cultural events, most notably the Indianapolis 500, and is home to respected institutions such as Indiana University and Purdue University.

Who are the voters?

Indiana’s voters are diverse with people belonging to various demographic groups. Historically, Indiana has leaned Republican in many elections, but there are also areas with strong Democratic support, particularly in urban centers like Indianapolis and Bloomington.

The white population in the state makes up around 70 per cent while black or African American people make up about 6-9 per cent. The Hispanic or Latino population of the state is approximately 10 per cent.

The state is largely Republican and has voted for GOP presidential candidates since the 1980s.

In particular, the state’s rural and suburban areas are deeply conservative with people backing policies that favor low taxes, limited government, and strong Second Amendment rights.

Indiana’s capital, Indianapolis, however, is more moderate or Democratic-leaning. The state government, nevertheless, is swamped by Republicans with both the governor’s office and state legislature under Republican control for many years.
