Indian-American author and entrepreneur Vivek Wadhwa questioned billionaire Elon Musk’s choice of China over India for Tesla’s manufacturing operations in a social media post. Choosing China over India, Wadhwa stated that “Elon is going to be the biggest loser” on X (previously Twitter).
He quoted a post by the Director of Centre for Russia Europe Asia Studies, Theresa Fallon, who said that US and European automakers are failing in China because they were looking only for short-term gain and transferring technology, management techniques and know-how to China. Ms. Fallon remarked, “That era is over, but it was good while it lasted.”
In response, Wadhwa mentioned that he had corresponded via email with the CEO of Tesla regarding the dangers in China a few years ago. He advised the billionaire to think about shifting Tesla production to India and threatened to “rob him blind” if he did not.
“Elon is going to be the biggest loser here. A few years ago, I exchanged emails with him about the risks in China. I warned him they would rob him blind and urged him to consider moving manufacturing to India instead, where he would have dominated the market by now,” Wadhwa wrote.
On Monday, Wadhwa shared the post. It has received numerous comments and more than 87,000 views since then.
Notably, Wadhwa’s remarks follow Elon Musk’s announcement that he would be traveling to China instead of India.
