'India stands in solidarity with Russia': PM Modi condemns ISIS terror attack in Moscow concert hall

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi denounced the recent terrorist attack in Moscow, that left more than 60 individuals killed and around 150 injured on Friday night.

In a statement released via X platform, PM Modi expressed, “We strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Moscow. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. India stands in solidarity with the government and the people of the Russian Federation in this hour of grief.”

According to Russia’s FSB Federal Security Service, a group of armed individuals, clad in military attire, initiated gunfire at a concert hall near Moscow on Friday night.

The attackers purportedly hurled explosives, igniting a significant blaze at the Crocus City Hall, situated on the western outskirts of Moscow. Social media footage depicted substantial columns of black smoke billowing from the structure.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the assault, with the United States confirming intelligence supporting the group’s assertion.

In response to the incident, the United States disclosed having cautioned Russia about the potential for an attack in Moscow. Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, declared Saturday that US officials had privately notified Russian counterparts regarding intelligence indicating an imminent threat.

“Earlier this month, the US government obtained information regarding a planned terrorist strike in Moscow – potentially targeting large gatherings, including concerts – prompting the State Department to issue a public advisory to Americans in Russia. The US government also shared this intelligence with Russian authorities in accordance with its established ‘duty to warn’ policy,” Watson stated.
