India and Germany have taken another step forward in deepening their strategic partnership through the High Defence Committee meeting held in New Delhi on November 18, 2025. Enhancing bilateral defence cooperation

Both sides reviewed a wide range of security and defence topics, particularly the scope for co-development and co-production of advanced defence equipment. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthen military collaboration and recognised defence cooperation as an essential pillar of their long-standing strategic relationship. The officials also exchanged insights on regional and international security challenges and agreed to expand joint training and military exercises.

Expanding participation in multinational exercises

Germany confirmed its participation in India’s upcoming multinational exercises such as TARANG SHAKTI and MILAN scheduled for 2026. These large-scale air and naval drills will foster better coordination and interoperability between the armed forces of both countries and their partners.

Promoting India’s role in the Indian Ocean Region

The Defence Secretary highlighted India’s position as the primary responder and a reliable security provider in the Indian Ocean Region. India’s regional vision, guided by the MAHASAGAR initiative—Mutual and Holistic Advancement of Security and Growth Across Regions—was presented as a framework for promoting cooperation in maritime safety, disaster relief, capacity building, and development partnerships. The German delegation appreciated India’s consistent role in maintaining stability across the region.

Building future-oriented defence ties

Both countries acknowledged the importance of connecting their defence industries and deepening collaboration in emerging technologies. As India and Germany mark 25 years of their strategic partnership, both sides emphasised the need to further integrate their defence and security efforts, laying the foundation for stronger collaboration in the years ahead.
