In a report submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC), prison authorities revealed that the special security measures for former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi come with a hefty price tag exceeding Rs 1.2 million per month.
The report outlined various exclusive facilities provided to Khan, including a separate CCTV camera system costing Rs 500,000, dedicated meal preparation supervised by prison officials, and a team of over six doctors from Holy Family Hospital for medical care.
Khan occupies two of the seven special cells available, with strict access control and a security detail of 15 personnel, raising questions about the cost and resources allocated to his confinement compared to other prisoners.
Khan’s meals are prepared in a dedicated kitchen under the watchful eye of the assistant superintendent and are subject to inspection by a medical officer or deputy superintendent before being served, The Express Tribune newspaper reported.
Access to Khan’s cell is tightly restricted, requiring permission for entry, and professionally trained personnel are assigned to ensure the security of his ward.
While Adiala Jail typically assigns one personnel for every ten prisoners, Khan’s security detail comprises 15 personnel, including two security officers and three dedicated to his personal security.
