The sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas terrorists during the October 7 attack was planned and they were trained for it, according to a report.
On October 7, 2023, around 3,000 terrorists of Hamas and allied groups like the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) invaded Israel and went on a rampage across southern Israel, attacking border communities and overrunning military outposts and bases and massacring people and sexually assaulting women.
Now, the Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), an Israeli non-governmental organisation, has found that the many incidents of sexual violence, including rapes, during October 7 attack were not isolated incidents but were planned and the terrorists had also received training on how to go about subjugating and assaulting captive women, according to The Jerusalem Post newspaper.
The Post, which carried the findings of PMW, reported that documents seized from Hamas terrorists and studied by the NGO show that Hamas and allied groups had premeditated intentions to use sexual assault as a weapon during their attacks.
Hamas gave written instructions for sexual violence
The documents show that Hamas had given written instructions to the terrorists in Arabic and Hebrew that would aid them in sexual assaults.
The Hebrew commands that terrorists would issue to their captives were written in Arabic script. The Post reported that the following commands were provided by Hamas to the terrorists: “Take off your pants,” “Lie down,” “Don’t make trouble,” “Men here,” “Women here,” “Children here,” “Raise your hands and spread your legs,” “Take your clothes off,” “I will kill you,” “We have hostages,” “We will kill the captives,” and “What is the name of the kibbutz”
“The Hamas language guide had the terms written in Arabic and their Hebrew translation then transliterated back into Arabic characters (see below) so that the terrorists would know how to speak and pronounce commands to the abducted Israelis,” noted the Australian Jewish Association, which also shared the findings of PMW on X (formerly Twitter).

Hamas carried out widespread sexual violence
The reports of sexual violence and rapes started pouring in on October 7 itself. The Supernova Music Festival in southern Israel, where terrorists killed more than 300 civilians, was the site of mass-murder and rapes. A survivor told Tablet magazine that women were raped amid corpses of their friends and were executed after rapes.
“They [Hamas terrorists] are kids, but they’re young men already, and they’re holding this guy, and he looks as his girlfriend is being mounted on a bike and driven away from him. God knows what she’s going to experience … Women have been raped at the area of the rave next to their friends bodies, dead bodies,” said this survivor in a story published on October 8.
The magazine further reporting that “several of these rape victims appear to have been later executed”.
A second survivor of the carnage the desert music festival told the magazine they saw mutilated bodies of women at the site. It is a running theme across Hamas attacks. In an investigative report, The New York Times detailed accounts of terrorists cutting women’s face and breasts after raping them and women’s corpses found with vaginas mutilated and nails hammered into the lower half of their bodies.
The newspaper reported that soldiers and medics who responded to the attack on the desert music festival said more than 30 bodies of women and girls around the site of the festival and two communities near the site with visible signs of sexual abuse: legs spread, clothes torn off, signs of abuse in their genital areas.
The violence was not just concentrated in and around the site of the festival. The paper reported that it found evidence of sexual violence in at least seven locations struck by terrorists across southern Israel.
In March, the United Nations (UN) also acknowledged that reports of sexual assaults were credible.
“We found clear and convincing information that sexual violence, including rape, sexualized torture, and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment,” said Pramila Patten, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict.
