Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday signed a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport as “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.” The name change, set to take effect from July 1, still requires approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The agency said that while renaming an airport is largely a local decision, it must complete administrative updates, including changes to navigational charts and databases.
The airport serves Palm Beach County, where Donald Trump frequently travels aboard Air Force One to his Mar-a-Lago resort located nearby. The region has remained politically significant, with recent electoral shifts drawing attention to the area.
An entity linked to the Trump Organization also filed a trademark application last month for the proposed airport name.

What are the terms of the bill?
The legislation mandates that Palm Beach County must be granted “perpetual and unrestricted” rights to use the Trump airport name and its abbreviations for official purposes, without any associated cost.
The move was welcomed by Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization who shared his excitement on X.

Political criticism over costs
However, the decision has drawn sharp criticism from Democrats. Florida House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell said in a statement that the renaming could cost taxpayers about $5 million.

Instead of working across the aisle with us to advance those bills, Republicans leaders decided to prioritize wasting five million of your taxpayer dollars on renaming an airport after the President,” Driskell said.
In addition to the renamed airport, the president and his allies have pushed to attach his name or image to several other entities, including the Kennedy Center, the US Institute of Peace, the administration’s prescription drug website, its high-value “gold card” visa, as well as coins and even a fighter jet, among others in recent years.
