Egypt on Tuesday announced it would present a “comprehensive” plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip.
The announcement comes at a time when US President Donald Trump is doubling down on his plan to acquire Gaza and develop it into the “Reviera of the Middle East” after expelling all Palestinians living there. The Arab nations have rejected the plan and have stressed that Gaza is the homeland of Palestinians and they should not be expelled from there. They are meeting in Egypt on February 27 for a summit to deliberate on the issue.
In this backdrop, Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Tuesday said that it would cooperate with the United States and present a “comprehensive vision for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip in a manner that ensures the Palestinian people remain in their homeland and aligns with their legitimate and legal rights”.
Even as Trump's plan and its endorsement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu essentially kills the two-state solution , Egypt said that any vision to resolve the Palestinian cause must take into account that “implementing the two-state solution as the only path to stability and coexistence among the region’s peoples”.

With the Donald Trump administration in the United States, Egypt aspires to “to achieve a comprehensive and just peace in the region by reaching a just settlement of the Palestinian cause that upholds the rights of the region’s peoples”, said the MFA in a statement.
While Egypt said that the plan in the works rules out the displacement of Palestinians and is within the framework of the two-state solution, it did not give any specifics and did not say who would foot the bill. Trump has said that Egypt and Jordan should take in Palestinians that would be expelled from Gaza under his plan.
