Ecuadorans began voting on Sunday on whether to allow the return of foreign military bases and the drafting of a new constitution that could give the country’s Trump-friendly president more power.

“May this day reaffirm that democracy is exercised, honored, and defended by voting,” said Diana Atamaint, the president of the National Electoral Council, as she declared voting open.

Nearly 14 million Ecuadorans will be able to vote on four questions that will decide how the country tackles rampant drug violence and addresses economic reforms. Polls will close at 5 pm local time.
