US President Donald Trump may walk away from supporting the Ukrainian war efforts against Russia, the American leader’s son, Donald Trump Jr, said while speaking at a conference on West Asia. In a lengthy tirade against the ongoing war, Trump Jr also maintained that Ukraine’s “corrupt” rich had fled their country, leaving “what they believed to be the peasant class” to fight the war.
It is pertient to note that while the US President’s son does not have any formal role in the White House, he remains a key player in the Maga movement. His latest assertion on the matter comes as Trump’s negotiating team is putting pressure on Kyiv to cede territory.
While speaking on the matter at the Sunday forum, Trump Jr said that the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has prolonged the war. Trump Jr insinuated that the Russia-Ukraine war was important for Trump since he knew that he would never win an election if it ended. Trump Jr went on to call the Ukrainian president a borderline deity on the left, but argued that Ukraine was far more corrupt than Russia.
Trump Jr slams the EU
During his tirade against Zelenskyy, Trump Jr also railed against the EU’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, saying European sanctions were not working since they had simply increased the price of oil, from which Russia could pay for its war. On the European plan, he said, “We are going to wait for Russia to go bankrupt – that is not a plan”.
Trump Jr went on to insist that he had only encountered three people during his canvassing of voters in the 2022 election campaign who thought the Ukraine war was a top-10 issue. At the same time, he raised concern over the risk of Venezuelan boats bringing the drug fentanyl into the US, calling it “far more a clear and present danger than anything that is going on in Ukraine or Russia”.
While speaking on the corruption in Ukraine, the son of the American leader claimed, without providing evidence, that he had observed this summer on a single day in Monaco that 50 per cent of the supercars, such as Bugattis and Ferraris, had Ukrainian number plates. “Do you think that was earned in Ukraine?” he asked.

When asked if it was possible his father – who ran for election claiming he could bring peace to Ukraine – would simply walk away, Trump Jr said “maybe he would”, adding that his father is one of the most unpredictable people in politics.
