US President-elect Donald Trump is set to be officially sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday (January 20). He arrived in Washington DC on Sunday morning, ahead of his inauguration ceremony.
The incoming president’s inaugural weekend began with a star-studded reception at the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia, attended by 500 guests.
The inauguration will be held indoors due to the freezing temperature. The ceremony will now take place inside the US Capitol Rotunda.
“I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather," Trump posted on Truth Social.
“We will open Capital One Arena on Monday for LIVE viewing of this Historic event, and to host the Presidential Parade. I will join the crowd at Capital One, after my swearing-in," Trump said.
Trump’s team is also in talks to possibly hold some of the celebrations at the arena, broadcaster CNN reported.
MAGA Rally on Sunday
On Sunday, President-elect Trump was set to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
Afterward, Trump is scheduled to hold a MAGA “Victory Rally” at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, to energise his supporters and promote his “America First” agenda. The rally is to be followed by a candlelight dinner.
