'Deeply concerned': PM Modi talks to Iranian prez after US strikes, urges immediate de-escalation

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (June 22) dialled Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian hours after US strikes on the country’s three nuclear sites.

During the phone call, PM Modi expressed his ‘deep concerns’ over the recent escalation and called for immediate de-escalation, diplomacy and dialogue.

PM Modi wrote on X: “Spoke with President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian. We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability."

In a strongly worded post on X, Araghchi accused the US, a permanent UN Security Council member, of “criminal behavior” for targeting what he called peaceful nuclear installations.

“The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences. Each and every member of the UN must be alarmed over this extremely dangerous, lawless and criminal behavior,” Iranian Foreign Minister said in a post.

The US deployed six GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator “bunker buster” bombs on the heavily fortified Fordow facility, while 30 Tomahawk missiles, launched from submarines 400 miles away, struck Natanz and Isfahan, according to Fox News host Sean Hannity.
