The death toll from severe flooding and landslides caused by relentless heavy rains in Southeast Asia, particularly in Vietnam, has climbed sharply bringing the toll to 91 and several others missing five others in Thailand with tens of thousands of people displaced as of late November 2025 . Heavy monsoon rain began over a week ago has displaced large parts of central and southern Vietnam, triggering widespread Vietnam landslides and infrastructural damage.
Central Vietnam including Dak Lak, and Khanh Hoa provinces were hit the hardest. Dak Lak alone reported 63 fatalities, with tens of thousands of homes submerged and over 80,000 hectares of crops were destroyed.
The devastation caused by the floods was so severe that it damaged key transport routes, including highways and railways, isolating many communities. Resume aids were provided to the isolated areas.
Local residents shared their horrifying experience as they spent nights stranded on rooftops as floodwater engulfed entire neighbourhoods.
“We’ve never experienced that much rain and such bad flooding,” the 45-year-old said.
Agriculture is majorly hit with millions of livestock drowned or swept away. This threatens the livelihood predominantly in farming regions. Economic damage caused by the disaster is estimated at over $340 million, making it the most costly weather calamities recently in the region.
