The Chinese authorities are ramping up an investigation into “common” disputes amid a recent spate of deadly attacks. The Chinese Justice Ministry maintained that they will increase scrutiny over local disputes involving marriages and property.
In recent months, the country has witnessed numerous spates of violent incidents such as mass stabbings and car rammings. These incidents emerged as a rare development for a country which has a proud reputation for public security.
In light of this, the Justice Ministry has urged local mediators to carry out “in-depth investigations” into disputes involving family, neighbours, land and wages. The ministry stated that close measures like this are necessary to resolve disputes at the early stage.

Earlier this month, a 62-year-old man killed 35 people and wounded more than 40 when he rammed his car into a crowd in the southern city of Zhuhai. The authorities called it the deadliest attack China witnessed in over a decade. The preliminary investigation into the matter revealed that the attack was “triggered by (his) dissatisfaction with the division of property following his divorce."
Days later, eight people were killed and 17 others were injured after a knife attack rocked a vocational school in eastern China. The police said that the suspect was a 21-year-old former student at the school who was meant to graduate this year but failed his exams.
