The BJP-led Union government has revamped the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) just days after the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 people — mostly innocent tourists — were killed by Pakistan-based terrorists.
Former R&AW chief Alok Joshi has been appointed as the Chairman of the newly constituted seven-member board.
The restructured NSAB includes several former officials from the armed forces, police, and diplomatic services. Among the retired military officers are former Western Air Commander Air Marshal PM Sinha, former Southern Army Commander Lt Gen AK Singh, and Rear Admiral Monty Khanna. From the Indian Police Service, Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh have been inducted. The board also includes B Venkatesh Varma, a seasoned diplomat and retired Indian Foreign Service officer.
The last board was formed in 2018, with PS Raghavan, former Indian Ambassador to Russia (2014–16), as its head.
