Car suicide attack in Pakistan: 5 soldiers killed, military says all 16 Bannu Cantt attackers eliminated

Pakistani military’s media wing said that its armed forces has eliminated 16 terrorists in response to the terrorist attack on the Bannu Cantonment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which five soldiers were killed.

Four suicide bombers were among the 16 militants who were also killed in the attack, the military’s media affairs wing said.

Terrorists drove two explosive-laden vehicles into the perimeter of Bannu Cantonment on Tuesday evening, attempting to breach the high-security zone, The Dawn reported, citing the Pakistani military.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that troops successfully fought off the intruders, killing all 16 terrorists, including four suicide bombers.

“During the intense gunfight, five soldiers lost their lives while defending the area,” the ISPR said.

Meanwhile, 13 civilians were killed, and 32 others were injured after the suicide blasts caused severe damage to a mosque and a residential building, partially collapsing the perimeter wall.

The little-known Jaish Al Fursan, affiliated with Hafiz Gul Bahadur, claimed responsibility for the attack in Bannu. The group is one of several factions of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

After the blasts, the cantonment wall was breached, and five to six attackers tried to enter but were stopped, police said.

Sources said to news agency PTI that the army sealed the main routes to the cantonment and restricted access to the blast site. Security forces neutralised at least six terrorists who had managed to enter after the explosions.
