The Justin Trudeau-led government has once again made a move which proves India’s statement correct that Canada has been patronising Khalistani terrorists. In the latest, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), has given clean chit to its officer Sandeep Singh Sidhu aka Sunny Toronto, who is in a list of fugitive terrorists which New Delhi wants deported from Canada.
Sidhu got the clean chit after an investigation by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS).
Sidhu, a member of the banned International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF), is wanted in India for promoting terrorism and the murder of a Shaurya Chakra awardee Balwinder Singh Sandhu in Punjab’s Tarn Taran in 2020.
Not just clean chit, Sidhu has also been reinstated as a superintendent by the CBSA, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
Trudeau govt should have defended Sidhu ‘more vigorously’
The CBC News further reported that Sidhu’s lawyers said the Canadian government should have defended him more vigorously from a foreign government accused of mounting a hostile disinformation campaign in this country.
The probe and subsequent clean chit to wanted terrorist Sidhu came amid the ongoing diplomatic tension between India and Canada over the murder of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June last year.
The relations between the two countries touched a new low after Trudeau, without any proof or evidence, accused the involvement of Indian government ‘agents’ in the killing of Nijjar.

According to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Sidhu has been associated with Khalistani terror networks and Pakistan’s notorious spy agency, Inter Service Intelligence (ISI).
In India, Sidhu is accused of killing Shaurya Chakra awardee and a Canadian national Balwinder Singh Sandhu outside his home at Bhikhiwind in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.
Sandhu, who was a teacher by profession, was decorated with the Shaurya Chakra for his role in fighting Khalistani terrorism in Punjab in the 1990s. He was against Khalistan referendums led by Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) in foreign countries.
Sidhu with the help of other ISI handlers, lured the assassin of Sandhu with promises of money and a home in Canada to carry out the murder.
In 2021, the case was transferred to the NIA. The agency informed the Supreme Court of India that operatives of the banned Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) orchestrated the plot and masterminded Sandhu’s assassination.
As per NIA, Sidhu was involved in promoting terrorist activities in Punjab. He is also alleged to have connections with Pakistan-based Lakhbir Singh Rode, the nephew of Khalistani leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who is designated a terrorist in India under the UAPA and with the US-based Khalistani Gurjot Kaur.
Sidhu was added to the list of fugitives, seeking deportation by the Indian government in October this year.
