The airing of the CCTV footage Friday provided the first public glimpse into the killing of pro-Khalistan figure Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
The video, captured on June 18 last year at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Sahib parking lot, shows Nijjar’s Dodge Ram pickup truck being blocked by a white sedan, followed by two individuals, suspected to be Nijjar’s assailants, rushing towards his vehicle before fleeing in a waiting Toyota Camry.
The footage was broadcasted by CBC News, a government-funded outlet.
The Globe and Mail, which previously reported on the video, quoted a senior federal source expressing frustration over the lack of arrests in the case.
Canada’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is leading the investigation. IHIT revealed in August that a third person, the driver of the getaway vehicle, was involved in Nijjar’s murder.
In a recent release, IHIT confirmed the use of a 2008 silver Toyota Camry in the crime and shared a grainy image of the car’s driver captured by CCTV.
According to reports, Canadian law enforcement has been surveilling two suspects linked to the killing and may make arrests soon. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reportedly seeks to ensure a strong case before proceeding with arrests.
Allegations of a potential link between Indian agents and Nijjar’s murder, made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in September, have strained relations between India and Canada.
