Authorities have released security footage showing the alleged gunman involved in a deadly shooting at Brown University. The gunman opened fire in a classroom around 4:00 pm local time (9:00 pm GMT) on Saturday, in a building where exams were taking place, killing two people and injuring nine others.
The video offers the first glimpse of the suspect, seen walking along Hope Street shortly after the shooting. Dressed entirely in black, with a hood or face covering concealing his features, the man turned onto Waterman Street as police tracked his movements. Providence Police Department Commander Timothy O’Hara described the clip at a late-night press briefing: “The footage shows the suspect leaving the scene. Officers immediately conducted a search of the Barus & Holley Engineering building but could not locate him.”

The shooting sent shockwaves through the university community. Brown University President Christina Paxson released a heartfelt message to students, staff, and faculty.
“We lost two community members today who were fatal victims of the shooting, and at this point, we know there are at least eight additional victims who were transported to the hospital,” she wrote. “In this moment, they are in critical but stable condition, but this is an evolving situation. Our hearts are with their families.”
Paxson urged the community to support one another during the crisis. “This is a day that we hoped never would come to our community. It is deeply devastating for all of us. We are grateful to law enforcement for their immediate response and their ongoing work to ensure the safety of our community,” she added.
