British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the agreement on the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza and urged its immediate and full implementation.

This first phase involves a ceasefire and hostage deal agreed upon by Israel and Hamas, which is part of Trump’s larger plan to end the Gaza war that has tragically claimed over 67,000 lives and reshaped the Middle East.

“I welcome the news that a deal has been reached on the first stage of US President Trump’s peace plan for Gaza,” Starmer said in a statement.

“This agreement must now be implemented in full, without delay, and accompanied by the immediate lifting of all restrictions on life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Starmer stated that the deal would bring “profound relief,” particularly to the hostages, their families, and the people of Gaza. He also thanked the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey for their “tireless” diplomatic work in achieving the agreement.

“We call on all parties to meet the commitments they have made, to end the war, and to build the foundations for a just and lasting end to the conflict and a sustainable path to a long-term peace,” Starmer said.

“The UK will support these crucial immediate steps and the next stage of talks to ensure the full implementation of the peace plan,” he added.

In a separate video, families of the hostages could be seen acknowledging Trump’s assurance on the hostage release. “We are the families of hostages who have come here to Washington, DC, this week to mark the October 7 attack against our people, when our loved ones were captured by Hamas terrorists," one of them said.

“Yesterday, we gathered here with the Trump administration, and today, President Trump has done it. He announced just now that our loved ones, the hostages, are coming home," he added.

“Thank you, President Trump, for your courage. Thank you, the Trump administration, for doing everything you can to bring them home," another family member said. Apart from this, the families of hostages released a joint statment, expressing “profound gratitude to President Trump and his team for the leadership and determination that led to this historic breakthrough".
