Six coaches of the Jaffar Express were derailed on Wednesday after a bomb exploded near the railway track in Jacobabad district of Pakistan’s Sindh province, which borders the restive Balochistan region.
The explosion took place close to a cattle market in Jacobabad, damaging the railway track and causing multiple carriages of the train to derail. No casualties were reported, according to officials.
Security forces arrived swiftly at the scene, cordoning off the area as investigators began probing the cause and nature of the blast. Train operations on the affected route were temporarily halted.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
This is the second incident targeting the Jaffar Express in recent months. In March, the train came under attack in the Bolan region of Balochistan during its Quetta-Peshawar route. That incident was claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which also briefly hijacked the train before it was rescued by the Pakistani Army.
