Belgium: Shooting at Brussels metro station, police hunt suspects in tunnels

A shooting incident was reported at a metro station in Belgium’s capital Brussels on Wednesday.

Three metro stations have been closed as police are searching for suspects.

The police said no was injured.

“A shooting took place. The images from the surveillance cameras show that the suspects fled towards the Clemenceau metro station. For security reasons we had to shut down the metro line. There are no victims,” Sarah Frederickx, spokesperson for the Brussels South police, told POLITICO.

The magazine reported that the shooting incident was reported at the Clemenceau station in Anderlecht area of Brussels.

Following the shooting, services on metro lines 2 and 6 were disrupted between Trône and Gare de l’Ouest in Anderlecht, according to the magazine, which further reported that services on tram lines 4, 10, 51, and 82 were also disrupted.

There is no information yet about the motive or whether it was an act of terror.
