Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan opposed Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir’s promotion to the rank of field marshal. The founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) condemned the governments move and went on to insist that Pakistan is being run by “law of the jungle”.
According to the post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Khan slammed Munir's promotion while interacting with lawyers, family members, and journalists during a hearing in the Adiala Jail courtroom on Wednesday. The tweet was posted on Thursday morning, as per the report by Dawn.
According to the Pakistani news outlet, the PTI leader also met his sister and lawyers, including Salman Safdar and Usman Gill, on the jail premises during the Wednesday hearing. It is pertinent to note that Khan doesn’t have access to his X account, and his messages are shared by one of his representatives. However, the name of the representative has never been revealed.
Khan equates Munir to a ‘King’
In the post, the PTI founder argued that it would have been more appropriate if Gen Asim Munir had been declared ‘king’ as Pakistan was being run according to the ‘law of the jungle’. He further quipped that the law of the jungle is that “there is only one king”.
However, the harsh stance taken by Imran came in contrast to his party leaders, especially Gohar Ali Khan. Interestingly, the PTI chairman met the former prime minister in jail on Thursday. While speaking to reporters, the Barrister said, “Allah has given the honour to COAS Asim Munir and also entailed responsibility.” “I request all to improve/normalise the situation of the country,” he added.
“This is why I am saying that the [army chief] has gotten this new honour of field marshal. [We] have congratulated, but after this new honour, there is an increased responsibility on him to play his role even more and make the situation better,” Dawn quoted Barrister saying outside the jail after meeting the PTI founder.
