Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with Fox News on Friday that it would be “difficult” for Ukraine to hold off invading Russian forces without the support of the United States.
Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Zelenskyy held a fiery meeting at the White House, with the US President accusing him of “gambling with World War III.”
“It will be difficult for us,” Zelenskyy said when asked by Fox News’s Brett Baier if Ukraine can win or hold off Moscow without Washington’s backing.
“That’s why I’m here. That’s why we speak about the future negotiations. It will be difficult without your support,” the Ukrainian leader said after White House talks with President Donald Trump earlier in the day broke down.
Relations with the US can still be repaired: Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy also said that relations with the United States can still be repaired after Trump shouted at him in an angry White House meltdown. Trump also accused the Ukrainian President of refusing to make peace with Russia.
“Of course,” Zelenskyy said when asked in a Fox News interview if the relationship with Trump could be salvaged.
US-Ukrainian ties are about “more than two presidents,” he said, adding that Ukraine badly needs Washington’s help in the fight against Russia’s far bigger and better-armed military.

Zelenskyy’s attempt to ease tensions came just hours after the heated argument in the Oval Office. At the meet, the long-standing US support for Ukraine’s fight against Russia broke down in a shouting match.
Following the clash, European leaders rushed to show support for Ukraine. Zelenskyy was forced to leave the White House early without signing a crucial minerals-sharing deal, which was seen as key to Washington’s support to the US and a peace agreement.
Heated exchange at the White House
Earlier, Trump and Zelenskyy had a heated exchange in front of the press at the White House.
“I am not aligned with anybody. I am aligned with the United States of America and the good of the world,” Trump said. “Don’t tell us what we’re gonna feel. You’re in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel … You’ve allowed yourself to be in a very bad position … You don’t have the cards right now with us.”
