India has held talks with China over the management of the border that both countries share, agreeing to use existing mechanisms to resolve any “ground issues”, New Delhi and Beijing said on Wednesday.
The talks are an extension of the breakthrough deal reached by both sides last year to resolve the 2020 border issue that triggered diplomatic tensions between the two neighbours. Since the pact in 2024, the two countries have taken steps to improve relations, including a resumption of direct flights and enhanced investment and trade flows.
The Chinese Defence Ministry said that the latest round of talks was held on the Indian side on Saturday, where they agreed to continue their dialogue through military and diplomatic channels.
“Both sides agreed to continue to use existing mechanisms to resolve any ground issues along the border to maintain stability,” India’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
Ties between the two countries reached a peak after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited China in August for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit where he met Chinese President Xi Jinping for the first time in seven years.
During his meeting with Xi, PM Modi emphasised that peace and tranquillity along the border are essential for the continued and smooth development of India-China relations.

The two leaders also expressed commitment to a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question proceeding from the political perspective of their overall bilateral relations and the long-term interests of the two peoples. They recognised the important decisions taken by the two Special Representatives in their Talks earlier this month, and agreed to further support their efforts.
