Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded Ghana’s national honour , ’the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’, on Thursday for his leadership and contributions on the global stage.
President John Dramani Mahama presented the award during PM Modi’ s visit to the West African country.
Thanking Ghana, PM Modi shared on X, “Honoured to be conferred with ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana.’”
I thank the people and Government of Ghana for conferring ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’ upon me. This honour is dedicated to the bright future of our youth, their aspirations, our rich cultural diversity and the historical ties between India and Ghana.

In his speech, he said the honour belonged not just to him but to the 140 crore people of India. He dedicated it to India’s youth, its cultural heritage, and the strong ties between India and Ghana.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs described the award as a sign of the close and growing friendship between the two nations. Modi thanked Ghana’s government and people for the recognition and said shared democratic values would continue to strengthen their partnership.
He noted that the honour “deepens the friendship between India and Ghana” and places a greater responsibility on him to build even stronger ties. Modi also said he was confident his visit would give fresh momentum to relations between the two countries.
Earlier in the day, Modi and Mahama held wide-ranging talks and agreed to upgrade their relationship to a comprehensive partnership. Modi’s trip is the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Ghana in 30 years and is part of his five-nation tour.
