An Ohio man allegedly ambushed his wife as she attempted to move out, killing her two children and the father of her eldest before turning the gun on himself, according to the Tiffin Police Department. 42-year-old Ryan Eagon launched the attack on Wednesday night after discovering his spouse was leaving their Seneca County home amid ongoing domestic troubles, officers said.
Police Chief David Pauly said in a statement that the community was unaccustomed to an event of such horrific and heartbreaking nature and urged residents to keep the victims’ families in their thoughts as they face unimaginable loss.
The wife, who was physically unharmed, had been collecting her belongings with 29-year-old Dustin Willey, the father of her seven-year-old son. The children had been waiting by the car, and the pair reportedly believed Eagon was out of town. While packing, they heard the older child cry out and went to check, only to find Eagon standing in the driveway.
Victims succumb to injuries
Police said Eagon chased Willey and fired at him repeatedly before shooting both children. He then discharged further rounds at Willey before taking his own life with a single self inflicted gunshot. The mother, described by police as in shock, overwhelmed and visibly traumatised, contacted authorities and carried her lifeless children back into the home.
The seven-month-old infant and Eagon were pronounced dead at the scene. The seven year old and Willey were transported to local hospitals, where they later died from their injuries.
Willey’s former employer, Kelly Gallagher, told WTVG he was a devoted father who would do anything for his son and was known for his kindness and willingness to help others. She said losing him felt like losing a family member.
Police said autopsies are pending with the Seneca County Coroner’s Office.
