At least 10 people have been killed and several others were left injured in Kyiv after a Russian missile and drone attack targeted the Ukrainian capital city.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister updated on social media that the attacks in Kyiv hit several residential areas, hospitals and sports infrastructure, with six people dying in a high-rise building, the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said.
The Ukrainian Air Force said that the latest Russian barrage included 352 drones and 16 missiles, which hit several places in the country, but the greatest impact was felt in Kyiv.
Valeriy Mankuta, a 33-year-old resident of Kyiv, told the BBC, he “woke up in the rubble” after his building was struck by what officials identified as a missile. He managed to escape by climbing out through a window.
“There were bricks on top of me, something in my mouth. It was absolute hell,” he told Reuters.
Russian drone attacks also killed three people in Ukraine’s northeastern region of Sumy, including a child.
Diplomatic efforts to end the three-year war have stalled, with the last direct meeting between Kyiv and Moscow almost three weeks ago and no follow-up talks scheduled.
Meanwhile, Russian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a surprise visit to London on Monday. He is scheduled to attend a two-day NATO summit in The Hague starting on Tuesday.
Zelenskyy is set to attend on the sidelines, but his involvement is being kept to a minimum to avoid a confrontation with US President Donald Trump.
