Guyana Responds after Venezuelan Navy's Incursion Near Exxon Oil Facility

The Guyanese President Irfaan Ali addressed his country in a televised national speech. President Ali informed the country that the Venezuelan Coast Guard’s Ship had entered Guyanese waters and approached an oil facility breaching international maritime agreements. The oil facility belongs to American oil giant ExxonMobil. In response, Guyana deployed its own naval vessels along with air assets to track the Venezuelan activity. In solidarity with Guyana, the United States has threatened Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro with serious consequences if the incursions continue. Tensions between Venezuela and the United States continue to escalate after Donald Trump slapped fresh sanctions on Nicolas Maduro.
