Following a military takeover that sent former President Andry Rajoelina fleeing, Madagascar's new leader, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, has appointed businessman Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo as the country's new prime minister. Randrianirina said that Rajaonarivelo, the former chairman of the Malagasy bank BNI, was chosen for his skills, experience, and strong relations with international organisations vital for Madagascar's collaboration. Randrianirina, an army colonel and a vocal critic of ousted President Rajoelina, was sworn in after the military takeover. The upheaval followed weeks of Gen Z-led protests over persistent water and power cuts, which culminated in Rajoelina's impeachment for desertion of duty. Watch this video to know more.
