Japan has sent a warship through the Taiwan Strait for the first time amid increasing Chinese military activity around the region. Japan's Takanami-class destroyer JS Sazanami entered the Strait from the East China Sea. As per the media reports, the warship spent more than 10 hours sailing south. Taiwan has already raised an alarm over the increased Chinese military activity in the region. In a press conference, the Japanese Defence Ministry said it had detected a second day of large-scale Chinese military activities nearby, with 29 aircraft engaged in a "joint combat readiness patrol" with Chinese warships. A day before it warned of 43 Chinese military aircraft operating around the island. Beijing said that it has lodged a strong complaint with Tokyo. During a daily briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that, "In response to a Japanese Self-Defence Force ship entering the Taiwan Strait, the Chinese military will deal with the matter according to law." "China is highly vigilant about the political intentions of Japan's actions," he added. Japan sent the warship a day after China test-launched an intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean in its first such exercise in decades.
