Blurring the line between national and personal interests, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has pitched his company as central to America’s quest to win the AI race.

In a speech in Washington DC, Huang on Tuesday said that the United States could win the global race to dominate the artificial intelligence (AI) if the world, including China’s massive developer base, runs on Nvidia systems.

In a bid to curry favour with US President Donald Trump, Huang praised the ‘America First’ agenda and credited it with spurring greater investment in US manufacturing and AI leadership, according to Reuters.

But, beyond purported national interests, it was clear what Huang was really seeking — market access to China.

Ahead of the US-China summit, Huang will meet Trump on Wednesday in South Korea. He is expected to urge Trump to press Xi to remove the ban on the use of Nvidia’s chips in China. Trump has indicated he could raise the issue with Xi.

Trump on Wednesday praised Nvidia’s flagship Blackwell model as the “super-duper chip” and said he might speak to Xi about it, according to Reuters.

“I think we may be talking about that with President Xi,” said Trump, adding he was “very optimistic” about the US-China summit.

In his speech, Huang said the United States could not be the global leader as long his company remained cut off from China’s markets.

“We want America to win this AI race. No doubt about that. We want the world to be built on American tech stack. Absolutely the case. But we also need to be in China to win their developers. A policy that causes America to lose half of the world’s AI developers is not beneficial long term, it hurts us more,” said Huang.

Nvidia to appease Trump with supercomputers

After AMD, Nvidaia has announced its appeasement of Trump with the development of seven supercomputers for the Department of Energy.

These supercomputers will in part help the United States maintain and develop its nuclear weapons arsenal, according to Reuters.

These supercomputers will also be used to research alternative energy sources such as nuclear fusion, the report said.

The largest of these supercomputers will be built with Oracle and contain 100,000 of Nvidia’s Blackwell chips, the report added.

“Putting the weight of the nation behind pro-energy growth completely changed the game. If this didn’t happen, we could have been in a bad situation, and I want to thank President Trump for that,” said Huang.
