The United States Senate has approved the official use of ChatGPT and other two AI chatbots by staff members, according to the report published by New York Times on Tuesday.

The decision allows Senate aides to use AI tools including ChatGPT, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot as part of their work.

ChatGPT is created by OpenAI, Gemini by Google, and Copilot by Microsoft.

According to the report the three AI chatbots can be now integrated into the Senate’s internal digital platforms, allowing staff members to use them while carrying out other activities.

The move reflects a broader trend of government institutions exploring how artificial intelligence tools can assist with everyday work processes, including drafting, research and information retrieval.

The reported decision highlights the increasing presence of generative AI tools in institutional and government workflows.

This follows the Anthropic row with the Pentagon.

US President Donald Trump and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth accused rising AI star Anthropic of endangering national security after its CEO Dario Amodei refused to back down over concerns the company’s products could be used for mass surveillance or autonomous armed drones.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that most government agencies must immediately stop using Anthropic’s AI but gave the Pentagon a six-month period to phase out the technology that is already embedded in military platforms.
