Xiaomi India sends out invites for expected Redmi 5 launch on 14 February

The Redmi 5 plus will feature 12 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera on the device. It is also expected to come with a front facing flash.

Chinese smartphone maker  Xiaomi  has announced that it will launch its first device of 2018 on 14 February. The company has sent out an invite for the event in the form of a teaser, which builds the excitement for the launch by simply mentioning the number ‘5’. Image courtesy: Twitter: @donovansung[/caption] The number ‘5’ sure is perplexing because it could spell the launch of the recently **announced Redmi 5** or even the yet to be announced **Note 5** smartphone. Since the Redmi Note 5 has only been seen in leaks, all eyes are on the Redmi 5, which was recently announced in China. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 was soft-launched in China in December 2017 and was made available in a standard and a ‘Plus’ model. The Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch, 18:9 aspect ratio display on the front, which also happens to be the highlight of the smartphone. The fingerprint sensor sits at the back of the device. The Redmi 5 Plus features a bigger 5.99-inch Full HD+ display that also arrives in a 18:9 aspect ratio, but features a metal back with plastic caps at the top and bottom. The smaller Redmi 5 is available in two variants with a Snapdragon 450 SoC inside. The chipset is paired 2 GB/ 3 GB/ 4 GB RAM options and is available in 16 GB/ 32 GB storage variants. Image courtesy: Twitter: @donovansung[/caption] The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus features a more powerful Snapdragon 625 SoC and is currently available in a higher-spec 3 GB/ 4 GB RAM and 32 GB/ 64 GB internal storage variants. Image courtesy: Twitter: @donovansung[/caption] Both smartphones feature 12 MP rear camera and 5 MP front-facing camera. The Chinese devices also come with a front facing flash for taking selfies in low light. Connectivity options for both devices include dual SIM 4G LTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, and a micro USB port. According to a recent leak on an e-commerce website , the smartphone will be priced  around $249.99 (approx Rs 16,000) in India. Redmi 5 and 5 Plus are expected to come with MIUI V9 and Android 7.1.2 Nougat inside.
