Panasonic's first two full-frame mirrorless cameras to arrive in March: CES 2019

After unveiling two of its first full-frame mirrorless cameras back in September, Panasonic at CES 2019 announced that the Lumix S1 and S1R, will go on sale by the end of March.

The Lumix S1 and S1R are the first cameras with the new L-Mount system, which Panasonic’s been working on with Leica and Sigma. The cameras will be able to shoot video at 4K 60 fps with dual image stabilisation and also features a 3-axis tiltable LCD display, contrast AF and double card slots for XQD and SD.

The biggest addition here though is hybrid gamma log (HLG) photo, which will be available at launch on the Lumix S1 and S1R. This tech allows images that reproduce glaring lights and dark shadows to be shot with a wider dynamic range. Users can then play those photos on Panasonic HLG compliant 4K TVs, like the GZ200 OLED model the company just announced.

The high-resolution mode announced for the Panasonic Lumix S mirrorless cameras takes advantage of the image stabiliser mechanism built into the camera. It shoots eight consecutive images automatically while shifting the sensor. These eight images are combined into a single image very quickly courtesy of a new image processing engine capable of high-speed signal processing.

Prices for the two cameras have not been announced yet but they are expected to be out soon. We will update the article with the prices when they’re announced, so do watch out for an update.
