Micromax would be launching its entry-level 4G feature phone along with a tie-up with the state-sponsored telecom operator. The exact date of the launch in October is not known. Micromax executive director said, “The idea is to have a device that can give competition to Reliance’s JioPhone. There is a huge market of 500 million feature phone users who would want to have more than one option.” According to ET, Micromax claims that Bharat One is expected to be offering a larger screen size, better battery life and a better camera. It is expected to have touch capabilities but would not be running on an Android OS. Speaking to ET, BSNL chairman, Anupam Sinha, said that Micromax’s feature phone is expected to be priced around Rs 2,000. It is likely to come with free voice calls. According to a previous report, the Bharat One is going to be the first 4G VoLTE feature phone and was supposed to be priced at Rs 1,999. According to Micromax’ chief marketing officer Shubhajit Sen had said that there is a demand for such smartphones in the entry-level segment. Micromax had recently launched Micromax Canvas Infinity at Rs 9,999, making it the cheapest device in the market with an 18:9 display.
