Android without Google inside
However, the biggest highlight of the Mate 30 Pro launch was software. While Huawei has been in a constant uphill battle with the US, ever since the US government accused the telecom equipment manufacturer of spying . Android comes from Google, so a recent ban has now officially forced Google and other US-based services to detach from Huawei, which basically means no Android or Google apps. At the very end of the launch event, Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO, Richard Yu announced that the new smartphones will not make use of Google Mobile Services (GMS) thanks to the ban but will have to make do with the HMS core instead. In short, Huawei’s brand new smartphones will not come with Google apps inside, which also raises questions about the availability of other apps made by US-based services like Facebook. And since Facebook also owns Instagram and WhatsApp it will be interesting to see how Mate 30 Pro users can do without these services.
