When Discord was reportedly informed about the situation, it took down the channel. The channel goes by the name of "deepfakes".

Discord, a chat platform primarily for gamers, has shut down its channel which goes by the name of "deepfakes". The channel was blocked because it was being used to share doctored pornographic material using artificial intelligence

According to Business Insider, the images used in the videos were doctored. These images were of celebrities and were doctored with the help of artificial intelligence, and also without their consent.

It is not the first time that something like this has occured. In December 2017, a Redditor who goes by the name of "deepfakes" had swapped the image of Gal Gadot with the help of artificial intelligence in a pornographic video.

When Discord was reportedly informed about the situation, it took down the channel. It had various other sub-channels as well. These sub-channels were about general discussion, another one was for sharing pictures which would be used in these videos, and another channel was for sharing doctored videos.

Apart from Discord's own rules regarding content, ironically deepfakes also had its own set of rules.

This included no use of pictures of children and “amateurs”. However, celebrity pictures were permitted.

These people reportedly used an app called FakeApp, which can swap images and create doctored videos as well.

The problem of obscene content floating on private channels of messaging platforms has become a menace. Discord's inability in dealing with obscenity and pornographic content, such as revenge porn also has become a matter of concern.
