Micromax claims it has sold 1 million Canvas smartphones

Micromax has claimed that the company’s Canvas series of smartphones has crossed over a million units in sales. In a press statement, Mr Shubhodip Pal, CMO, Micromax, said, “The Canvas series has proved to be a trendsetter in Indian smartphone segment. The demand for these devices has been on an upward curve from the time of their launch. It was great to witness consumers wait until 12:00am for their chance to book the Canvas HD on Valentine’s Day selling 9000 units in less than 24 hours.” Micromax’s Canvas HD A116 however did face major supply issues once it was released. The company had released the smartphone exclusively on SnapDeal. The phone was priced at Rs 13,990 at the time of the launch, however Micromax was later forced to increase the price to Rs 14,499 due to hike on duties on mobiles above Rs 2000, which was introduced in Budget 2013. Micromax is also slated to release the next Canvas smartphone, the 3D A 115 which could be released by the end of this month or in early May. The device is rumoured to have a 5-inch WVGA display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, and a dual-core MediaTek MT6577 processor, and an 8-megapixel camera along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
