Unlike 2024, not many foldable phones were released this year, or at least didn’t make it to our shores. A few years ago when Samsung made foldable phones a reality, there were some issues and concerns over their durability. Over the years most of them have been ironed out and the product category seems fairly settled. Unfortunately, they remain some of the most expensive phones around despite not being from Apple. Let’s look at which ones saw the light of the day in 2025. Today, we will only explore the larger full-sized variants and not the flip type.
Best Foldable Smartphones of 2025
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7
It is only fair to start with the brand that pretty much created this segment. The latest iteration of Samsung’s foldable flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold7, is a powerful and feature-rich device. From raw performance to excellent cameras, this smartphone is everything that one expects a flagship device to be. Even better, it is now as slim as several normal phones when folded, measuring less than 9 mm in thickness and just 4.2 mm when open, without compromising on the sturdiness.
You get a 6.5-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover (outer) display with 120 Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protection. When you open the phone, you have a vibrant 8-inch foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 2184 x 1968 pixels and 120 Hz refresh rate. The large display provides a great user experience, irrespective of whether you’re taking notes, watching videos, surfing the web, accessing multiple apps or gaming. The UI adjusts smartly when switching between the two screens.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and you get 12 GB or 16 GB RAM options and a choice of internal storage ranging between 256 GB all the way up to a TB. This phone runs the latest Android 16 with Samsung’s One UI 8. And the company has promised 7 more years of OS and security updates for this phone similar to its S series lineup.

As for the displays, the inner and outer screens are great for entertainment and productivity both. The 6.4-inch Full HD+ OLED outer display has 120 Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. When opened, the foldable LTPO OLED display measures 8 inches with a resolution of 2076 x 2152 pixels, 120 Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ compliance. Vivo X Fold5
The Vivo X Fold5 is the most affordable of the lot and will set you back by just under a lakh and a half Rupees. Yes, I know! The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, which powers its predecessor too, the Vivo X Fold3 Pro. We were expecting Vivo to go ‘Elite’ with this one but the previous Qualcomm flagship is still incredibly powerful for most tasks. It is coupled with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB fast UFS 4.1 internal storage.
Just like the Samsung, this phone too is quite slim at just over 9 mm when closed and 4.3 mm when open. The weight distribution is even and the phone feels great in hand. It can easily pass as a regular flagship phone when closed. Despite its reasonably compact footprint (for a foldable), it packs a large 6000 mAh battery that provides it the best battery backup among its brethren. It also supports 80W fast wired charging with the necessary charger bundled along, and 40W wireless charging, making it the fastest charging phone of the three.
No points for guessing, the Vivo X Fold5 has two displays too with the cover LTPO AMOLED display measuring 6.53-inch with a resolution of 2748 x 1172 pixels, 5500 nits peak brightness and second-gen Armor Glass protection. When opened, you get an 8-inch 10-bit LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels, 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 4500 nits. The rear camera department here is co-engineered with Zeiss and consists of three high quality 50MP cameras that cover all the necessary bases. You get a primary camera with OIS, a periscope telephoto camera with OIS that provides 3X optical zoom and an ultra-wide camera with 119 degrees FOV and autofocus that can double up as a macro camera too. Unlike the other two phones, you get 20MP selfie cameras up front. The Vivo X Fold5 runs Android 15 with Funtouch 15 UI with the company committing to four major Android updates for this device. The Android 16 update with the new OriginOS is expected shortly.
