BJD's MP Bhartruhari Mahtab said, "There is apprehension that the Union government may take over the control of the dam... Through this bill, you (Centre) are acquiring the power. It is not the top-down function that will work."

With the overwhelming majority of the Lok Sabha appearing convinced, only time will tell whether this was the first step towards a more secure India or the last nail in the coffin for free speech and political dissent.
