The announcement came on Taiwan’s National Day with President Lai Ching-te pledging to resolve all the layers of defence and effective interception. China responded sharply, warning this move could “push Taiwan into a dangerous situation.” Beijing condemned the U.S.-Taiwan military relationship, and urged Washington to formally oppose Taiwan independence — a major diplomatic escalation. At the same time, China has been conducting drills simulating attacks and blockades on Taiwan.
